Background
I have been travelling to Tanzania for
the past 12 years to teach in churches. Over the past several years various
false teachings have been troubling the churches there and I was asked to
address these subjects in my preaching and this brought evident joy and relief
to them, as well as some surprise as to how they had been taken in by these
teachings.
I was also asked if I could write some articles regarding these teachings so
that they could be translated into Swahili and provide a permanent resource.
This has now been accomplished.
These articles were not written for those who already recognise these teachings
as unbiblical, but for those who have been influenced or ensnared by them. They
were meant as teaching material for those pastors and believers that I know and
love in village churches in Africa. As a consequence, the some may find the
style rather repetitive. I had no great relish to be involved in writing against
errors; however, after witnessing first-hand the confusion and heart-ache that
these teachings caused among the Lord's people, and then seeing their joy,
relief and thankfulness at being delivered from such teachings, I have responded
to the request and written these articles.
I had been asked by others also if they could use these articles, so I have put
them on this website to make them available in case anyone might find them of
benefit or use.
My concern has been to write against the erroneous ideas themselves, so I have
avoided, where I could, mentioning the names of the books and writers who
promote them, who wouldn't be known to my African friends anyway. However, at
times, I did find it necessary to quote some authors directly.
